Introducing the "In Your Element" Series featuring some of our favorite relatable ladies (think ABLE staff, content creators, artists, you name it!). Stay tuned for honest chats about their everyday lives, how things are going lately, and all the good and bad in between.

Meet Laura– a freelance illustrator and influencer, based in Brooklyn, New York.

When do you feel most in your element?

I feel at most in my element when I'm able to explore NYC, and bring along my sketchbook! I love people-watching. Living in such a big city is really ideal for connecting with different types of people. Whether that be for creative and business reasons, or for personal reasons, I always feel like I’m learning from others, and from the city itself, while being here. I have an opportunity to look at situations differently because of it, and it’s really inspiring.

What are some things you're into or inspired by lately?

Lately, things have been a little different, because of COVID-19. These days, I've been finding inspiration at my neighborhood park, in our apartment reading, or while baking! Recently, I made some cheddar scones (recipe from Girl Versus Dough) and they were amazing.

How are you doing? No really, how are you doing?

I’m doing okay. Being my own boss has been extra hard with everything going on lately, because there’s no one to tell me when and how hard to work. Because of the state of the world, I feel less motivated to get my projects done. In regards to BLM, I’m donating and working hard on educating myself and lifting up the voices that can teach us from an informed perspective. I know I have the opportunity to use my platform for good, so I’m trying to do just that.
