Hi! Tinsley, ABLE's Brand Stylist, here!

Remember back in January when I wrote about a capsule wardrobe and explained the "less is more" intentions I had for myself and my closet this year? Well, I've been practicing better consumerism, sticking to making more intentional purchasing habits, and living with a smaller wardrobe. In turn, I have been happier, I've spent less money, and I can get dressed in half the time. And now I'm back to give you the full scoop. Let's start with the basics.

What is a capsule wardrobe?

A capsule wardrobe is a collection of pieces that can be paired interchangeably to maximize the number of outfits that can be created. AKA, you easily create more looks with fewer pieces.

Typically a capsule wardrobe refers to your entire closet and many people find it helpful to pick a certain number of pieces and stick to it. We aren't here to box you in with a number, and we find it easier to think about it in terms of occasions and outfits. Many pieces can be worn dressed up or dressed down, depending on what your life and calendar need. The ultimate goal is to have an outfit for every occasion without needing to purchase an entire department store to put together each look.

Most importantly, your capsule wardrobe should be tailored to you and your individual style. In other words, you don't need to have a closet full of boring basics to achieve this. It's more about selecting quality pieces that are thoughtfully chosen for longevity.

At ABLE, we're here to help you build your own capsule wardrobe while providing you with options that are versatile enough to be worn in multiple ways but stylish enough so you can express your unique personality. Plus, our quality fabrics pass the wear test. Just ask our lifetime guarantee. (Yeah, all of our pieces are guaranteed for life. We're that confident about our pieces.)

Why would I want a capsule wardrobe?

Great question. It sounds nice, but it sounds like a lot to figure out. I get it – I've been there! But the payoff is worth the work.

A capsule wardrobe helps you wear what you love every day.

Part of the reason getting dressed can be frustrating or time consuming is because you don't have the right pieces to work with. Once you have all the right pieces, that's when the fun really starts. What might seem more restrictive and limited actually gives proper boundaries for you to get creative and always leave the house wearing an outfit you love and feel your best in.

A capsule wardrobe saves you money.

While the individual pieces you purchase might have a higher price tag, you'll be wearing them multiple times over a longer period of time. The plain white tee you choose might cost more up front, but the lasting quality means you won't be replacing it every few months. When you know what you need and what you're shopping for, you end up being more intentional with your spending rather than frequently or aimlessly spending.

A capsule wardrobe also benefits the people who make your pieces and the planet.

When you're purchasing pieces for your capsule wardrobe, you're shopping more thoughtfully and intentionally. As you look for higher quality pieces, you also have the opportunity to consider the quality of life for the people who made those pieces and the impact the creation process has on the planet.

TL;DR: We think the capsule wardrobe is the best way to achieve your goals while also creating a wardrobe that inspires you.

In the coming weeks, myself and the team will be walking through how to easily create more looks with fewer pieces. We'll explain our how-to formulas, give tips and tricks, and show specific examples that will help you build your own capsule with confidence. You'll be able to decide what to keep from your existing wardrobe (spoiler alert: it's probably more than you think!), identify any gaps that are there, and get ideas for what to purchase to fill those gaps. Not only will you build a wardrobe that works for you this season, you'll be equipped with everything you need to continue this lifestyle for seasons to come.

In the mean time, catch up on my posts on basics and incorporating trend in your capsule wardrobe.

We're excited to be on this journey with you, and hopeful that you'll discover how to find joy in your wardrobe that brings joy to your everyday.

Tinsley
