Behind the Design: The Sierra Patch Pocket Jacket
Did you know? All of our pieces are named after the amazing women behind our brand. That's why we love our new Sierra Patch Pocket Jacket because it was designed by our very own Denim Designer, Sierra Smith.
We had the chance to ask her about the inspiration and details behind the design of our newest denim jacket. Read more about Sierra’s design process below.
When designing a new jacket it's always a process of trying to sketch just the right details that will make it unique.
For the Sierra Patch Pocket Jacket, all of the details – the rounded topstitch at the welt pocket, the front chest pleats, and patch pockets – were chosen because of our love for vintage denim.
It's also made with our signature buttery-soft rigid denim, which uses a liquid indigo dye that requires less water during the wash process. This makes for a bright vintage, lived-in-feeling indigo wash that’s accented by our classic gold threads.
I wanted to make sure the jacket still felt like a modern version of that classic style, and I think that's what makes it uniquely ABLE!
It has a flattering and feminine fit that sits on your true shoulder and a slim, straight body that is a slightly more cropped version of our Merly Jacket.
You can either wear it true to size, and see it break in and ease with wear, or size up for a more relaxed fit like I did!
I'm not one to shy away from a denim-on-denim look – that is my typical everyday uniform! So while the weather is still a bit cool, I'm wearing it with my favorite high-waisted jeans, a long sleeve or sweater, and a warm bandana and beanie.
As the weather warms up, it's such a versatile jacket to layer on top of dresses or go more casual with your favorite jeans and a classic tee, like our Mae Drapey Tee or Gloria Graphic Tee! The unique wash and style make it effortless to style with anything, no matter the season.
