ABLE Culture
We are a women-run company with an intentional culture of empowerment. In everything we do, from providing jobs for women who often lack the opportunity to promoting from within, we are intentional to create a culture that reflects our mission to empower women through opportunity. It's from this place that we create thoughtful pieces that allow our customers to feel empowered. As one of our jewelers once said, "If the people aren't healthy, the product isn't healthy."
Every woman who works at ABLE earns a living wage and has:
Investing In Women
When women in vulnerable communities have well-paid jobs, their families, communities, and economies thrive. When women are in positions of leadership, the workplace thrives. However, women are more likely to be unemployed, paid less, and experience more occupational setbacks than men. Not only do we provide opportunities for women to experience dignity, equality, and safety in the workplace, there is an opportunity for greater impact in doing so.
Vendor Partners
We are intentional to partner with vendors who share our same mission to empower women through wages, benefits, safety, and equality. Our two-pronged approach to partnering with vendors includes coming alongside new businesses to help them create better opportunities from the ground up, as well as coming alongside existing, larger scale businesses to support the way they’re paving in the industry.
Transparent Wages
As we expanded our product categories and began partnering with large-scale vendors, we realized the need for greater social accountability. In response to seeing a lack of on-site audits that required employee insight, we developed a third-party social auditing system, ACCOUNTABLE. This on-site audit evaluates our vendors’ wages, benefits, safety, and equality. In 2018, after using ACCOUNTABLE to evaluate our own in-house jewelry studio and our vendor partners in Ethiopia, we were the first brand to publish our lowest wages. This unparalleled transparency increased awareness of the fashion industry’s dirty little secret: only 2% of fashion workers earn enough to cover their basic needs.
While the pandemic has put a pause on annual audits of our vendors, we are motivated to continue this work.
We are intentional about implementing systemic changes to expand and empower our community. Our internal hiring process, model casting, partnership strategy, and product design are just a few examples of where our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion are reflected.
Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion
At ABLE, we commit to diversity, equity, and inclusion through our internal hiring process, model casting, partnership strategy, and product design. We welcome, embrace, and cultivate staff, partners, and customers of diverse backgrounds and perspectives. We are deliberate in our actions, implementing systemic changes to expand and empower our community while striving to make a positive impact locally and globally.
