Design Philosophy

Each piece is thoughtfully designed to combine style, function, and fit so you can look good and feel great. We prioritize quality and longevity, while at the same time working to find the most eco-conscious materials that stand the test of time and wear. All of our pieces are guaranteed for life, and we are here to help you keep your ABLE pieces in your wardrobe - and out of landfills - for years to come.

Leather

All of our leather is upcycled from discarded animal hides into handcrafted bags, wallets, and other leather goods you can keep for years. Our design team works with our leather partners to intentionally design different sized pieces that utilize the most materials, including deadstock and scraps, to minimize waste. In addition, our partners use a 100% recycled, closed-loop water system.

Jewelry

The majority of all of our sterling silver used is made purely from recycled silver. We have moved away from some of the harsher chemicals used in the jewelry manufacturing process to use natural solutions (like citric acid, instead of sodium bisulfate, for cleaning newly soldered jewelry). All of our scrap metal from the protection process is collected and sent off to a refinery that melts it down and processes it into new pieces of wire or sheets of gold and silver.

Denim

We source our denim from partners in the western hemisphere to reduce our carbon footprint. In the design process, we select fabrics from mills that are developing different sustainable denims. Our non-stretch denim uses a liquid indigo that requires less water when being washed. Ozone is used in the production process to reduce water usage, making denim finishing more eco-friendly. Harsh chemicals, like Potassium Permanganate, are avoided when possible. Instead, more environmentally-friendly alternatives, like enzymes that act as biocatalysts, are used. In addition, 100% of the water is recycled. All denim scraps are given to the government to use for housing insulation.

Packaging

At ABLE, we are moving to 100% recyclable materials and tags. Our vendors often incorporate recycled packaging (recyclable plastic inserts and discarded newspaper) during shipping as well, based on what is available in their community.
